Description
This is an super easy and light activity to introduce the world of digital maps to kids and beginner users in a friendly way.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) allow us to model the world in a computer environment. With GIS we can perform complex analyses and solve various problems. We model the world in GIS through layers. Similar to cakes where we have different layers, in a software environment, we model the world by grouping similar objects into layers.
For example, in one layer we can have the street network of a city, in the other layer the rivers, in third the buildings, and so on.
The exercise is fun, it has a goal and therefore gives you a sense of achievement at the end. It will also give you an inside guide on how to use maps online with OpenStreetMap , a free wiki world map.
